From a young age, Scotlynn Group President and CEO, Scott Biddle, was exposed to hard work and what it took to be successful in the business world.
Scott would soon transport his family’s produce to the market and begin selling it to customers. In the offseason, Scott would work at a Toronto-based market and develop some lasting relationships. It was at this time when he realized his family’s business could be more active in the offseason by using trucks from the farm to effectively transport produce for others. This was when Scott’s passion for transport and logistics took off.
“Watching my family and my father, from a young age, definitely taught me good work ethic,” recalls Scott.
In 1993, the Ontario, Canada-based Scotlynn Group was established. While it took some time to become profitable, Scott was undeterred. Rather, he continued to put in the work in order to build his business from the ground up, to where it is today — a highly reputable and trusted logistics and transport company.
This was achieved, in part, by Scott’s can-do personality, top-level business acumen, and vast experience in the produce industry.
Early on, Scott understood that transporting produce required great attention to detail, being organized, as well as having the best equipment in place. As such, he has developed successful processes that allow Scotlynn Group to transport any item it handles – not just produce – efficiently and in a timely fashion to satisfy customer expectations.
Beyond processes, Scott credits his team of logistics professionals for a lot of the success Scotlynn Group has achieved. To help keep his team performing at an optimal level, Scott has created an in-house gym program and brought in a company chef.
“That’s a big focus of mine,” adds Scott. “I say I’m not really in the transportation, produce and logistics business anymore. I always say I'm in the people business now – just building people. It’s about just trying to continuously build on that culture.”
Scott’s willingness to invest in quality logistics processes and great people, has helped Scotlynn Group lengthen its reach over the years.
In May 2010, Scotlynn Group expanded stateside and established its offices into the US. With a presence in Fort Myers, Tampa and Indianapolis, Scotlynn continues to provide top-notch transportation and logistics services to clients across the United States. Beyond that, Scott and his North American team aim to continually innovate by implementing cutting edge technologies and developing best practices in order to provide customers with tremendous service.
Now, over 30 years since the inception of Scotlynn, the company continues to look toward the future. Not comfortable resting on his laurels, Scott is determined to continually expand Scotlynn’s presence through a willingness to continually challenge himself and enhance the reach of his business.
